Brütal Legend – Steam Backlog Bonanza [Blaugust 5]

For undoubtedly many of the same reasons as the rest of the United States, I wasn’t in a very good mood yesterday, so I called an audible and substituted Brütal Legend instead of the game I *planned* to play. I remember enjoying a demo of Brütal Legend on the PS3 years ago, so when I saw a PC version in a Steam sale for $5 in 2013 I had to get it.

I actually remembered to take a real live screenshot for a change.

By the way, I had to lookup how to type the “ü” because we don’t know how to do that kind of stuff here in America. It’s still just as annoying to do in 2019 as it has been for the entire history of Windows.

Brütal Legend is a great game. Well, it’s a funny game. Okay, the *game* part of the game is actually kind of a lot of button-mashing tedium, but the *entertainment* part of the game is fantastic. The voice acting and cut scenes and so forth. If you like that vaguely Spinal Tap/Wayne’s World style of humor that is.

I assume everyone knows already that it’s led by Jack Black and an assortment of famous musicians from the metal music scene. Metal “from a simpler time,” that is. The 70s? No, the *early* 70s. Hyuk hyuk.

As I’m still in a somewhat terrible mood, that’s about all I can think of to say about the game. It’s fun, it’s colorful, it’s stylish, it’s full of classic metal music and inside jokes.

Will I play more? Possibly. I don’t feel any rush to uninstall it, at least.

Live Stream - Brütal Legend

Stream Production Notes: It turns out that Brütal Legend is a terrible game for streaming, because there are a *lot* of copyrighted songs in it. :) I had a copyright claim for Black Sabbath’s Children of the Grave soon after completing the stream. (I also misremembered the name of that song in the stream, much to my embarrassment, and that it was a Black Sabbath song, not an Ozzy Osbourne song.) I expect another for Def Leppard’s Rock of Ages, but I at least tried to sing over that one so maybe it will defeat the content ID match.

Ozzy’s monstrous live version of Children of the Grave with the late Randy Rhoads on guitar that I mentioned is here:
