Games Played – May 2019

This should be a pretty short list.

  • Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, 53 hours. I finished my first playthrough and started NG+. I got bored about halfway through NG+ though.
  • 7 Days To Die, 2 hours. I don’t remember why I played this. I think I might have been playing it while listening to Critical Role early in the month. I have thoughts about the newest version but I can’t remember what they are at the moment.

I got bored in Sekiro NG+ because the only thing that’s different the second time around is the new satisfaction of roflstomping all the bosses now that you know what you’re doing. Even carrying the Bell Demon around, NG+ is laughably easy thanks to the previous 75 hours of training.

Unfortunately I was correct with my guess that, quite disappointingly, there is very little replay value in Sekiro. It’s a one-and-done game, unless you like chasing obscure achievements, which I don’t. Supposedly there are two other bosses I can find but I’m just not in the mood anymore. It’s probably a good business decision on From Software’s part, because it means they can push out games with less in them faster, but it’s a let down after the jam-packed, infinite replay value standard set by the Souls games.

Luckily for me, I was able to turn to my PS4 and From Software’s Bloodborne, still waiting there for me. So I started playing that. It’s much better than Sekiro, although the slower frame rate is a massive millstone around my neck. 30 fps cap in an action RPG? Are you kidding me? Even with Boost Mode it’s not much better. Anyway I don’t know exactly how much I played in May but I recorded 4 hours of Bloodborne video. There will be more next month but I have to be very careful with my thumb. I’m trying to play at most every other day, which is a struggle in self-discipline. Good thing there’s no such thing as gaming addiction!
